About Us
The Computational Intelligence Research group of UNINOVA (CA3) main mission is to actively participate in applied research supported by research& development projects to advance the area of applied computational intelligence by providing new concepts, methods and algorithms capable of solving real-world problems
The CA3 Research group

The Computational Intelligence Research Group (CA3) was formed in 1996 and in 2000 it was integrated in the Centre of Technologies and Systems (CTS) of Uninova.

The CA3 group joins together researchers with interests in the areas of Computational Intelligence, Data Mining & Machine Learning, Visualization & Image Processing and Ergonomics. Our main focus, besides theoretical research, is on the application of the research topics to projects in industry and services, with special emphasis in the Space domain (European Space Agency).

After Portugal joined ESA, our group has since gone to develop over 15 projects for the various establishments (ESAC, ESOC, ESRIN and ESTEC), as well as being involved in several projects for the European Union and multiple projects for national entities, which have lead to the submission of 2 patents.

The main research topics of the CA3 are:
  • Multi-Criteria Decision Making
  • Fuzzy Inference Systems (FIS)
  • Monitoring & Diagnostic Systems
  • New Modelling Techniques in Ergonomics
  • Visualization and Image Processing
  • Intelligent Sensorial Information Systems
